Winter Money-Saving Hacks: Mug Edition

These single-serve mug meals are your new go-to when you want something warm, tasty, and zero waste, with barely any effort. We're teaming up with our mates at Love Food Hate Waste to bring you two microwave marvels that’ll save food and your power bill.

1. Mug Quiche: The Fancy One-Minute Wonder 

What you need:
  • 1 egg

  • 1 ½ tbsp milk

  • A handful of crusty bread, ripped up

  • 1 tbsp sundried tomatoes, chopped

  • 1 tbsp grated parmesan

  • Fresh herbs if you’re feelin’ posh

How to:
  1. Beat the egg and milk together in your mug.

  2. Toss in the rest. Mix it up.

  3. Microwave for 1 minute 10 seconds.

  4. Pretend you're in a Parisian café. (Optional but recommended.)

2. Mug Carrot Cake: Cake for One, Please 

What you need:
  • ½ cup flour

  • 2 tbsp grated carrot

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • 4 tbsp milk

  • 2 tbsp chopped walnuts (optional)

  • 1 tbsp cream cheese for topping (optional, but yum)

How to:
  1. Chuck everything (except toppings) into your mug.

  2. Mix until smooth.

  3. Microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depends how strong your zapper is.

  4. Top with cream cheese and walnuts if you're feeling a lil extra.
