This recipe is part of the campaign with Love Food Hate Waste for 'no veggie left behind'. We're all on a mission to fight food waste, one tasty bite at a time
Ingredients:
- 1–2 large onions
- Olive oil, for brushing
- Cheese, grated (we reckon mature cheddar is good, but use what you fancy!)
- Your favourite seasoning (e.g. garlic powder, paprika, cracked pepper, chilli flakes, etc)
- Salt, to taste
Method:
- Preheat your oven to 150°C (no fan).
- Layer your cheese onto a lined baking tray.
- Slice your onions into disks about 5mm thick. Place them onto the cheesy tray.
- Brush each onion ring lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with your choice of seasonings. Don’t be shy!
- Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and crisp. Keep an eye on them during the last few minutes - they go from golden to burnt quickly.
- Let them cool slightly on the tray to crisp up even more.
Tips:
- Use red onions for a sweeter chip, or brown onions for a sharper bite.
- Serve them up with a dipping sauce or scatter over salads for crunch.
- If you’re into spice, a pinch of cayenne or chipotle powder takes them to the next level.
