Apple & Chayote Crumble

2 large Chayote, peeled and diced into 2 cm pieces
2 apples, peeled and diced into 2 cm pieces
½ cup brown sugar
1 ½ tablespoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon ground cloves

Crumble Topping

200 g butter, unsalted cut into cubes
1 ½ cup almond flour
¼ cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 180C degrees
Peel the chayote and apples and cut into quarters. Remove the cores.
Cut into 2 cm cubes.
Place the cubes into a bowl and add the spices and sugar.
Toss until all pieces are covered.
Place the coated fruit into a baking dish.
In a bowl, place the crumble ingredients and gently blend using your fingers into a crumble texture.
Spoon the crumble on top of the chayote and apple mix in the baking dish.
Bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden and the fruit is soft.


Serve with a side or natural yoghurt or whipped cream!
